After releasing the Latte Price Index earlier this year, we continued examining how everyday food prices vary across the United States. This time we turned to another staple of the American fast casual menu: the burrito.
The 2026 Burrito Price Index analyzes average burrito prices across 21 U.S. states to understand how the cost of a common meal changes by location. Based on publicly listed restaurant menu prices, the analysis finds that the national average price of a burrito now sits at $12.73.
While most states fall within a relatively tight range between $12 and $14, a few markets stand out. New York and Florida rank among the most expensive, while Texas remains one of the most affordable burrito markets in the dataset.
Regional differences are influenced by several factors including ingredient costs, rent, labor, and overall dining trends within each market. Even for a menu item as familiar as a burrito, these local conditions can lead to noticeable price variation across the country.
The Burrito Price Index offers a simple snapshot of how everyday menu prices shift from one region to another, highlighting how local economics shape the cost of even the most familiar meals.
