Walk into Whisk Me Away Bakery on a weekend morning, and you’ll find Morgan Gray, the baker behind the cakes and pastries that have become a favorite in Providence. She grew up in Rhode Island and always felt connected to its food scene. After working in local bakeries and restaurants, she opened Whisk Me Away to bring her style to the neighborhood.
The bakery focuses on simple ideas: real ingredients, fresh flavors, and small-batch baking. Every order reflects Morgan’s personal touch, an approach that shows up in each cake and pastry that leaves the kitchen.
Morgan’s journey in pastry began in high school at a neighborhood bakery, where she learned the basics of working with dough and the patience that good baking requires. That early experience shaped her approach to baking and helped her find a rhythm in the kitchen that still guides her today.
She went on to Johnson & Wales University, where she graduated at the top of her class in Baking & Pastry Arts and Foodservice Management. Right after, she accepted a Pastry Chef position in Newport at just 19. The job was demanding, but Morgan embraced the chance to experiment and refine her technique, learning how to balance flavors and create recipes that felt both classic and fresh.
A few years later, she moved to Providence to take on another pastry role. Here, she connected with the city’s close-knit food community and found inspiration in the small, personal cafes that dotted the neighborhood. She briefly moved to Boston to help open a new restaurant and manage a growing team, but the energy of Providence always pulled her back. Coming home felt like a chance to take what she had learned and turn it into something of her own. Whisk Me Away grew from that idea, shaped by the places and people that have been part of Morgan’s path.
The bakery keeps things simple. The team uses real cream, butter, and fresh fruit for everything on the menu. Every batch is small and made with attention to detail, whether it’s the classic layered cakes that are a signature of the shop or the soft donuts that fill the display case each weekend.
Morgan’s style is about highlighting the natural flavors of each ingredient. The frostings are smooth and not too sweet, the pastries have just the right crumb, and the textures are as important as the flavors. Her own love for donuts shows in the way each one is light, fluffy, and satisfying without being heavy.
The bakery opens on weekends with a full menu of cakes, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches, and the front-of-house café is being built out to add more space for people to gather and linger. The team also works on custom cakes and dessert tables for weddings and special events, keeping the same level of care and quality that’s present in every small batch they make.
Whisk Me Away is a bakery that understands the balance of fun and focus. Morgan Gray’s path from local bakeries to her own space is a reminder of what happens when you stay true to where you’re from and what you love to make.
For weddings, birthdays, or quiet mornings with coffee and a donut, Whisk Me Away is ready to bring something sweet to the table.
