Ggiata Delicatessen

Ggiata has been doing the NJ-style Italian sub right since they opened their first LA location, and the Highland Park spot on York Boulevard is the one that feels most like a neighborhood deli should. The bread is baked every morning in-house, and it makes a difference you notice on the first bite. The Italian cold cut sub comes loaded with cotto ham, salami, hot capicola, smoked muenster, and more on a charred seeded baguette that has enough structure to hold everything together without fighting you for it. The breakfast sandwiches on the biscuit are the sleeper hit of the menu. Customers who have tried every location will tell you the biscuit sandwich here is the best version they have done, and the biscuits go fast. The space seats about 21 inside with half a dozen counter stools and a small outdoor section. Service is quick, the staff knows the menu well, and the operation runs cleanly even when it gets busy. If you have been to any other Ggiata, the Highland Park location delivers the same quality with a slightly more open, airy feel than the older spots.
